Margaret Kilgallen (*1967 – 2001†) was a San Francisco based artist, who combined graffiti art, painting, and installation art. Her work demonstrates her respect for craftsmanship like sign painters and the stories of everyday peoples’ lives. Together with her partner Barry McGee and others she formed the so called Mission School art movement. Besides being active on the streets of the Bay Area as META she also was known for her ‘Matokie Slaughter’ moniker on US freight trains.

INSIDE OUT is the first retrospective zine on the broad variety of Margaret’s works compiled by Barry and her daughter Asha McGee. The 80-paged publication comes as a selection of large sized photos from her activities on boxcars, studio shots, murals, paintings, figurative works as well as letter pieces and sign paintings.

The zine was released in 2024 next to her exhibition at Tokyo based gallery and publisher Scooters For Peace. We were able to get a few copies for our stock so don’t sleep on this one. Only while stock lasts.
