Painted Graves II – Olivier Scuro
44,00 €
Olivier Scuro a.k.a. OPAK is a notorious French trainwriter who made a name for himself throughout Europe starting in the early 90s. In the legendary Dirty Handz movies he, his crew mates from the SDK and WUFC and befriended writers manifested their outstanding panels and wholecars into the European history of graffiti. In 2001 he was forced to stop painting trains in France due to massive and effective police investigations against him and his friends.
Painted Graves is a brand new book series by him allowing insights into his archives from the 90s on. In the 2nd volume he solely dedicated the 240-paged content of the book to befriended writers, that sadly already passed away.
“One evening, I grab a pencil, some paper, an eraser, and sketch a series of letterings in tribute to the departed. RISK, RUZD, MATH… I realize with dismay that the list is far longer than I’d thought. I want a tribute that doesn’t devolve into whining or cliches.”
In eight chapters OPAK recalls past actions and presents many unseen shots from his archives featuring RISK, STONE, REMO, MATH, NESH, CHOC, RUZD and AONE. In short texts he tells their stories and shares memories on common train actions. Added is a high quality tribute pieces he did for each of them on discarded trains turning the train graveyard into a site for memorial memories.
The high quality linen hardcover is a personal microhistory of one of Europe’s most notorious trainwriters but at the same an interesting answer to the question on how to preserve the legacy and memory to graffiti writers who left us too early.
We also recommend the 1st Painted Graves volume and for collectors we even did get our hands on the signed limited edition box set exclusively including an addtional booklet.
