Adam Kraft – HOLES, HUTS & HIDINGS

In 2006 Adam Kraft first published HOLES, HUTS & HIDINGS – three poster sets hidden in a plain cardboard box. The box was shown to the former chief inspector of Copenhagen Central Station on Danish television (with English subtitles) after he had discovered a house belonging to Adam and his partner Itso during renovation work.

20 years later, a new edition of HOLES, HUTS & HIDINGS is finally available again. It contains exactly the original three poster sets but in a completly new designed envelope and a text by Peter Cornell printed via letterpress.

The first set is about Slussen (passage). It is not only a big place in Stockholm with a traffic hub connecting north and south, and a gateway between inland waters and the open sea. Slussen is also a hideout: the exposed access point of a subway ventilation shaft repurposed into a small clandestine shack. Inside, a hatch in the floor opens onto a tunnel network that carries you down and around.

The second set Stockholm Vatten (Stockholm water) is the municipal company responsible for the city’s sewage and drainage. Pipes and caverns form its circulatory system. The collapsible boat Adam built allows you to enter and navigate these hidden waterways beneath the city.

The third set is Taking Place-Owning Space. In the rotunda of Stockholm Library and its surrounding wings, the shelves hold around 800,000 books. Nine of them are hollow. Each contains a key and a map leading to its corresponding lock: an informal loaning system granting access to landscapes beyond commercial life – free of charge, waiting for whoever happens upon it.

22 cm x 30,5 cm x 1,7 cm, folded cardboard envelope with resealable thread opening and handmade punched holes on the map, includes 3 folded newspaper poster sets + 1 letterpress text
