ESPO – Writer’s Digest

Gates: 1997–2003
Art, Photos and Writing by Stephen ESPO Powers

Stephen ESPO Powers is a Philadelphia originated graffiti writer and artist who made a name for himself by establishing an own legible piece style when he moved to New York in the mid 90s. In the 2026 publication Writer’s Digest he presents selected works from his archive in the style he might be best known for the graffiti world: shutter and store fronts he painted, often in the daytime.

The 92-paged softcover presents pieces he did in between 1997 and 2003 at locations mainly in New York City but also features New Jersey, San Francisco or Paris. Most spreads show the respective roller shutter before and after he painted them. This way we do not get a selection of Powers’ works but also an historic insight into the late 90s and early 2000s of the locations with works by VEEFER, JA, ONE2, STAR, CHAZE, NET, JEWL, OMEN, ASTRO, WEB, SKUF, CLAW, JON156, and many others.

ESPO opens the booklet with a small introduction on a work done back in 1998. We imported a small stack of this rare publication for you!
