Warszawa Zachodnia 2987

Round about 60 years ago graffiti writing developed in the US and within two decades, when trainwriting became the major genre, infected the whole globe. As writing on trains today might still be the most authentic and cult-like continuation of traditional New York graffiti, painting steel wagons gets harder and more challenging each year. One can only be curious how the future of this phenomenon will look like.

In Warsaw West 2987 the publishers made up the concept of train writing almost thousand years from now. They invited authors to write seven short story chapters on how executing pieces on trains might happen and what moves writers to stick to this by then ancient tradition at the end of the new millennium. From chasing drones to pixel code spray cans as tools the science fiction stories try to paint a picture of graffiti on trains in the future.

“This book is a record of a future that hasn’t come yet — but might. It’s a collection of stories set far ahead in time, in a world where train bombing hasn’t vanished — it’s just evolved.”

The Polish and English texts are accompanied by lovely black and white images that give a taste of how the authors and we might illustrate the futuristic scenarios in our heads. In times of overtaking digital consumption of graffiti content this unique reader is a refreshing break and alternative content to enjoy about our favourite topic.
