UPPER CLASS – OUT OF NOWHERE

Within the history of graffiti from time to time you stumble across writers and crews who trigger one particular thought: “These guys really should do a book someday”. Luckily the Zurich based UPPER CLASS crew managed to do so and did put together a massive photo book on their origins, most important events and peak in the 1990s.

The crew’s founding was in 1990 but the book goes back to its member’s roots which date back to 1984 and the first generation of writers in Switzerland. When local writers of the Zurich scene like LORD, PHARAO, TAKIT, and ZOMBIE teamed up to build the UC crew they already had established a name with outstanding pieces, both on the city’s streets and trains alike.

The UPPER CLASS group developed a quality unmatched for this era in Europe for illegal works. Along train- and tram lines or in the Zurich yards they realized insane productions which established the crew to the top notch writers of the continent in the early 90s. The book captures this peak of quality in brilliant photographs divided into six main chapters and combined with refreshingly lot of text from members and companions of the golden days.

Besides travels to New York, Basel, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rimini and Rome on 448 pages we get insight into their black books, newspaper clippings, or stories like how European legend MODE2 became part of the crew. The high quality tome tells the group’s story and features works from names like: SHOCK, ASHES, MONIAK (†), KYNE, BOST, ZIMTIK, TREZOR, INAK, ZIMOK, DISASTER, AMON, SHE, ZEBSTER, WON, POEM, PJAY, KISTER, TEA, NEEW, FERIT, and others.
