La Zone Grise / The Grey Zone

From 13th May till 7th June 2026 the La Zone Grise / The Grey Zone exhibition ran at the Atelier de L’Échelle in Marseille. The show presented works and positions from 19 legendary European graffiti writers who made an impact in the continent’s writing history over the last four decades: 2SHY, ASER, DACYA, DARE, EGS, HONET, INXS, KEATS, L’Autre Ville, MELLIE, MILK, NICO, PANE, POCH, PUM, ROBOT, ROGER, SEXY and The Wa.

“All the participants in this exhibition have very different life paths but share a common point: a grey zone. All of them one day dressed in black, hid their faces, erased their fingerprints and lied about their schedule. All of them met one day in Marseille, Rome, Berlin or Warszawa Zachodnia, in a dark subway station, at the foot of a Soviet monument or on a gloomy motorway rest area. All have already crossed paths deep in a snowy forest, crawled together in an underground hose or hid a night, fear in their stomachs, in a dirty hole teeming with spiders. All have already been followed, listened to, denounced, for a crime without money, without a cause, without weapons, without violence and without victims. All have one day won a victory, were named King and Queen, were pioneers, had disciples. In the world of graffiti, street-art and alternative cultures, these people are Spartans in the strictest and most martial sense of the term. They do not communicate on socials, do not share their passion with the non-initiated, do not show their faces and don’t tell their names. Their exploits vanish with the wind and their traces are buffed in the morning, but remains the moments, the shared secret and the feeling of belonging to something extraordinary. And those who know consider them as Legends.”

The exhibition catalogue consists of four 50 x 70 cm silkscreen posters on arena smooth paper printed in chrome and black. Each poster is printed on both sides and comes in a large sized folder that has been signed by all of the writers and artists.
