LADY PINK – She’s an Anomaly

When art galleries in New York and Europe started to acknowledge graffiti writing as an art form and started to put up exhibitions in the late 1970s and early 80s only a few artists with a graffiti background made it into the art world. To this day names like CRASH, DAZE, DELTA2, KOOL KOOR, LADY PINK, SONIC, BILL BLAST, QUIK or BLADE are mentioned when it comes to writers who really established themselves as artists over decades. In 2011 Luca Cinquetti found Arena Studio d’Arte – a gallery which in the recent years held exhibitions with these major artists in Verona, Italy.

For 2024’s first show the curator invited New York legend LADY PINK. From January till April the year’s premier exhibition displayed mainly recent works from 2022 and 2023 on often large scale canvas and paper. She combines traditional elements of the namewriting culture like spray cans, tags, pieces and the iconic subway with floral elements and psychedelic characters in the shown pieces.

Besides archive material like newspaper clippings and flyers the 80-paged softcover catalogue includes shots from the vernissage and an essay by Edoardo Falcioni: Lady Pink and Graffiti as the Stage for Unconscious Feminism. She’s an Anomaly is limited to 200 hand-numbered copies.
