A visual history of the Ikonoklast Movement 1989-2024

When graffiti writing reached Europe in the mid 80s it was a continuation of New York graffiti stylewise and conceptwise. But a few writers quickly evolved beyond the strict aesthetic rules that stylewriting brought along and developed their own ‘post-graffiti’ style. The British writer JUICE126 united several like-minded artists when he founded the so called Ikonoklast Movement in 1989.

‘Future Language of the Ikonoklast’ is the first compiling publication on the collective’s œuvre spanning 35 year of the activities from CHU, CRISE, JUICE126, PART2, ROUGH, SOLO ONE, STORMBOY, SYSTEM and TEE ROC (†). On over 270 pages the book includes the group’s manifesto, early letters, flyers, sketches, canvases, posse shots, and of course countless conceptual works they executed over the years on walls mainly in the United Kingdom, with a slight focus on the 90s.

In retrospective texts the members, whose works are also known under the name of VOP (Visual Orgasm Productions), reflect on the group’s artworks over three decades but also on influences like FUTURA2000, DONDI, Jean-Michel Basquiat or RAMMELLZEE. Since a big part of their works were painted in the pre-social media era most of the book’s content is shown for the very first time in this extensive hardcover.
