GORDON MATTA-CLARK: NYC GRAFFITI ARCHIVE 1972/73 – PART TWO

Gordon Matta-Clark (1943-1978) was an important American architect and conceptual artist who was specialized in intervention and deconstruction. As New York originated observer of his home town he began to take photos of the upcoming namewriting phenomenon in the summer of 1972. Although documenting the movement in more than 2000 photos until autumn of 1973 only a small percentage was exhibited as part of his Photoglyph collage works in the 70s.

After a major part of his New York graffiti photographs has been published in 2024 in a extensive picture book even more of this rare never before published shots have been discovered. In this 2^nd part by the same format we once again get insights into the early days of namewriting in the birthplace of graffiti. He captured graffiti on subways as well as in the streets in one of the most important eras ever: when the outlined piece developed from the tag or hit.

Important note! This is not a revised version of the previous book. It is a completely stand-alone publication limited to 500 copies featuring new amazing photos from Matta-Clark’s archives. PART TWO is the perfect addition to the first volume which comes also as a lovely produced high quality hardcover with gold gilded pages.
