ZEE CITY tells the graffiti history of Switzerland’s biggest city Zurich. With a traditional start in 1984 orientated to New York, pushed by visits from RAMMELLZEE, ERO and PHASE2 the city develops a productive and vivid writing scene, with Paris style influences throughout the 1990s. Especially the first years are featured in chapters next to breakdance, DJ-ing and MC-ing with explanatory texts from important local hip hop activists.

The book’s larger graffiti part clearly focuses on illegal activities like street bombing and trainwriting until round about 2010. In chronological order several chapters spotlight relevant events and eras like the founding of the reknown 14K magazine, the birth of the legendary UPPER CLASS (UC) crew, the city’s 1998 zero tolerance politics and the trainwriting peak in the summer of 2003.

The hardcover is fully packed with hundreds of photos and texts from DUCAL DADDY FRESH (Alex Pistoja), GEN, EKR/ECROF, DJ NAIL, CRAZY PAINT, CSIZEE, TAKIT, DIVA & DARIA, PRODOMO, LORD, AREZ, ZOMBIE, RESK, BUZ & JOHN, CARSONE, IGOR, DENT, BEKA, OONE, MIGEL, M.O.D., and others. Flyers and newspaper clippings have been added to give a broad overview on the Zurich hip hop origins and evolution.
