TAG SPOTLIGHT #5 – PINOX’82

TAG SPOTLIGHT is a new publication series accompanying the international TAG Conference. For the 2024 edition, which will take place in Groningen from 25th till 27st October, the latest volume has been published. Once again one specific topic of the writing culture is in the volume’s focus.

Several Dutch cities had a vivid punk-, political slogan- or football writing scene before New York graffiti arrived from overseas in 1983. Groningen is one of these rare European examples. PINOX’82 started writing in the late 1970s as part of the local Z-Side football hooligan group. But with his own name he went all city and kept being active until in the early eighties when US-influenced pieces and tags began to shape the cityscape and also his style.

TAG SPOTLIGHT #5 focuses exclusively on photographs of his works from different sources. From early black and white street scenery shots with naive marker tags to mid 80s elaborate full color piece productions the reader is able to follow the cities most iconic writer from this exciting era. This zine is another puzzle piece to the interesting and unique history of graffiti in the Netherlands.
