Mit Köpfchen, Herz und Militanz.
Potsdam originated writer CREAM started writing traditional graffiti in the early 1990s. When the city of Berlin became his main playground for legal, illegal and abandoned works in the 2000s, his style also began to evolve away from classic forms. Ever since then he forced his five letters into constantly changing shapes.
In the last couple of years CREAMs pieces seem to have become more spontaneous and less ornate, 3D-blocks or more than two or three colors are hardly to be found, no matter if the pieces appear on freight trains or on rooftops of the German capital. The finished product appears to be much closer to the sketch or idea the artist had in mind in the first place.
In “Mit Köpfchen, Herz und Militanz” (“with savvy, heart and militancy”) he presents selected works from the last decade, atmospheric landscape collages, everyday impressions for instance from travels combined with poems. In the stanzas the artist shares thoughts on his doings, the environment in which they appear and observations on current politic topics in society (like the 2017 G20 summit in Hamburg).
The 68 paged high quality publication brings you closer to one of these guys, who somehow always manage to surprise with their stuff and have become a part of the city’s (sur)face within the last 25 years.
The zine was released to the occasion of the exhibition CREAM & BOE – BOE & CREAM as a limited edition of 100 copies each.
