In spring of 2024 Boris DELTA Tellegen and Aldo van den Broek teamed up for an insane mission: Documenting the complete metro tunnel walls between Amsterdam Centraal and Amstel stations. Tunnel Vision shows the results of their four hour stroll along the unbuffed concrete of the Dutch capital underground railway in an huge 240-paged softcover.

Subway tunnels are special mystical places in the graffiti writing culture. Writers enter tunnels usually to paint underground trains just like the founding fathers of namewriting did in the 1970s in New York. On the way in and out they leave marks as proofs and witnesses of their mythological doings. Time stands still in these places and traces from writers can be found even decades later often in perfect condition.

Since there is no cleaning protocol for the tunnels of Amsterdam both photographers were able to capture the history and heritage of more than 40 years of writing culture on almost 4000m of pure concrete. Although some works might have been crossed by others, still this Pandora’s box contains pure gems from one of the worlds most important namewriting cities. Instead of tags and pieces flash by for a blink of an eye while you pass by in a subway train now it’s possible to enjoy the works in more than 2000 photographs.

Tunnel Vision includes essays from Dumar Novyork, John Prop, REAZE and Joris van Casteren.
