DAIM – RETROSPECTIVE – 35 YEARS OF GRAFFITI ART
25,00 €
Mirko Reisser started writing graffiti in the 1980s in the city of Hamburg. Although in his early days he was influenced by traditional stylewriting he soon improved his technique and began to develop his works further to master the three-dimensional style in the mid-90s for which he became world famous in the following years. In his RETROSPECTIVE we are able to trace his path through four decades for the first time through selected works from each era.
The 128-paged softcover book leads from his first attempts as RIGHT, SINZ-E or CAZA to legendary works as DAIM e.g. the mosaic pixel piece in 1994. No matter if it was trains, canvases, drawings, etchings, or wooden and concrete sculptures – the artist transformed his name as main motif into various and creative ways over the past 35 years. The several chronological chapters open with a short statement on each phase of his full body of works.
The retrospective exhibition catalogue gives a great overview on DAIM’s unique style and works from the last decades. By sticking to his four letter name as subject he is one of the rare examples of writers who made it to the art world without changing their works to gallery-compatible excerpts or abstractions. Whether it is the walls of a white cube gallery or 96m high murals in the city centre of Calgary – DAIM is still executing pieces in his own style as he did more than thirty years ago and the book is a great proof of that.
