Graffiti und Politik – Friederike Häuser / Robert Kaltenhäuser

After Friedrike Häuser did publish her first anthology Graffiti in 2021 this time she teamed up with Robert Kaltenhäuser for the new volume: Graffiti und Politik. As KRIPOE mentions in the preface, there is and seemingly has always been the question whether graffiti, or more exact writing, is a political act or not. This question seems to be as old as the one if graffiti can be defined as art or not. So it was time to invite some experts in the field and let them discuss the topic in their scientific essays:

• Friederike Häuser – Einleitung. Jeder Politik die Kunst, die sie verdient
• Michl-Felix Bierl – “Wer Bock hat, hat Bock!?” Subversive Praktiken von Writerinnen* innerhalb der Graffiti-Szene Berlins
• Sophie Bruderer – Wieso steht Graffiti unter Strafe? Graffiti, Strafrecht und der Schutz des Eigentums
• Thomas Chambers – Za naszą i waszą wolność. Imagining the Nation in Polish Graffiti Magazines
• Alexander Crome – Extrem Rechtes biting.
• Berit Merla – Graffiti, an exclusive society? An empirical analysis of the construction of masculinity in the Berlin graffiti subculture
• Orestis Pangalos – Tracing the political aspects of graffiti writing
• Igor Ponosov – Specifics of Russian Urban Art. Poetry, philosophy and manifestos in the streets
• Jeffrey Ian Ross – Scratching below the Surface. Examining dominant Myths about Graffiti and Street Art
